The Street Zero Emergency fund helps our partners and charities who work directly with people who are rough sleeping. Showing kindness, the frontline teams purchase basic items on behalf of those most in need to help them move away from life on the streets.
Every penny counts
All donations go to help the person. Anyone can donate – no matter what the amount. It doesn’t give cash directly to people rough sleeping or go towards administration costs.
The fund has provided bus passes to young people so they can work or study, and it has supported our partners to continue to deliver their services during COVID-19.
There are several people on the streets of Newcastle who are begging and not rough sleeping. This does not mean that they don’t need help, as in most cases they do.
There are many different reasons why people beg including mental and emotional ill health, relationship breakdown, bullying and exploitation, financial problems, and addictions.
Northumbria Police estimates that over 70% of people you see begging in Newcastle are in fact not necessarily homeless. If you would like to help these individuals, an option is to donate online.
