Education and developing skills is crucial to helping people in recovery sustain a life away from the streets.
Education, employability training, and job-seeking may feel out of reach for people who have been sleeping rough.
In 2021, Street Zero intends to create a space where people in transition from homelessness or care can rediscover their strengths and access the services and support they need for a sustainable future including learning, employment, healthy living, and financial and digital inclusion.
Together Newcastle College and Changing Lives are committed to developing a package of recovery solutions that will allow participants to undertake a range of learning and employability opportunities.
They will include in 2021
- Offering taster courses that link directly to the Newcastle College prospectus. They will cover subjects such as life-skills, catering, wellbeing, building, construction, I.T, and many others.
- Access to a coach/mentor to assist people as they navigate through to a successful outcome.
- Creating job-ready employment pathways
More details will follow here as this project is being developed.
